Home Again on a Friday Night

Once again we are home on a Friday night.  What should we eat?  Where should we go? Both common questions most nights of the week.  Greg wants to go to a movie, I want to stay home.  How did we come to this! In years past our routine has always focued on our kids.  For instance, tonight is a football Friday night and it’s quarter finals for the state championship.  Our town, WDM, is no stranger to the annual treck to the quarter finals, and every single year we  go to the game.  In years past we would packed up the Tahoe with as many kids as it would hold and head out of Dodge.  Tonight we are excited about the game, we talked to our college freshman and he is going to the game (just so happens his HS is playing in Ames, Lucas goes to Iowa State).  Sounds like fun but…I guess we just aren’t up to it.  LAMO! What have we become!

Tomorrow is a new day, and we do have plans.  Tonight I guess we can just go to Kohls!

TWITTER

Since I am officially a “blogger” there is no time like the present to get the word out.  One of the best ways to create a local following is through TWITTER!  I know, my target audience isn’t even on twitter yet, but they will be…hey they have iPhones and Facebook accounts…Twitter is next!

I set up my Twitter account as @emptywirednest and I plan to post fun stuff for those in the 50+ crowd who live in and around the state of Iowa (aka the midwest).  If you want to follow me, look me up.  If you want to include me in your Twitter conversation use #emptywirednest.  P.S. # is a hashtag 🙂

Monster Munch Popcorn

Monster Munch Popcorn, CandyCorn, Peanuts, Reeses Pieces, Almond Bark

So I had Monster Munch for the first time last year at work..OMG!  Best snack EVER! From that moment  I was bound and determined to find the recipe and make it myself.  Thank goodness for the internet!  I searched for “candy coated popcorn” and behold, Monster Munch popped up..haha get it…”popped up” it’s made with popcorn! (I crack myself up!)  Anyway, I found the perfect recipe.  I melted the almond bark in a double boiler, poured the popcorn and other ingredients in my Tupperware That’s a BOWL, poured the almond bark over the snack mix and stirred.  I placed parchment paper on two cookie sheets and spread the warm Monster Munch over the paper.  I let it cool for two hours and then it was ready to devour!  I ate at least the first third, sent half of what was left with Alex who was home for the weekend, and the other half was taken to Lucas at Iowa State.  On Monday I made another batch, and a third batch on Tuesday!  I made enough Monster Munch for the neighbor kids, my nieces and nephew, my parents, my in-laws, and my dear husband!  Halloween success!
